Anything to kill grass and weeds?

I really don't have a lot of time to weed my garden, but I do have a lot of blooming plants in my backyard. I had heard of some type of weed killer that would kill the grass and weeds that grow between flowers, but would not hurt the flowering plants. Is there such a thing? I can't seem to find it locally and the nursery near me never heard of such a thing. Is there anything on the market that will do this?

Thanks,

What effective methods of pest control are also organic?

I am really excited about the push for organic gardening that seems to be happening around the country. We have started a great compost and have stopped spraying chemicals for pest control. But that takes away a really big part of our overall strategy in having a big garden. So, what methods of pest control exist that are certified organic and are also highly effective in getting rid of pests?

How do you know when compost is ready to be used?

I have recently come to love the idea of composting. It significantly reduces the amount of garbage my home creates and it will make some great fertilizer for my vegetable garden. My question is, how long do I have to leave the heap to compost before I can use the material as fertilizer? Or put another way, how do I know when the compost is done? Thanks

In composting, do grass clippings provide nitrogen or carbon?

I am doing my best to save my fruit clippings and leaves for composting. But as summer grass cutting season comes on, I am really curious where grass clippings come into the picture? Do they provide nitrogen or carbon, and at what ratio should I be adding them to my heap? Cheers.

The advantages of Organic vs. Inorganic fertilizers.

My wife and I are trying to fertilize our garden. We have done the compost heap, but that hasn't yielded the amount necessary for properly fertilizing the whole plot. So my question is, what are the advantages of buying organic vs inorganic fertilizers. And which ones will do the best job without overdoing it? I want to enjoy a nice cucumber and tomato sandwich on my patio this summer, somebody help me out. Thanks Stan
